This distinguished global recognition places Bank Asia alongside leading international financial institutions such as Standard Chartered Bank and Deutsche Bank, underscoring the significance and competitive stature of the award.

The award was formally presented by Ms. Nathalie Louat, Global Director, Trade and Supply Chain Finance of IFC, to Mr. Sohail R K Hussain, Managing Director of Bank Asia PLC, at a ceremony held in Lisbon, Portugal, on March 26, 2026. The event was attended by senior representatives from IFC and Bank Asia, including Mr. Akintunde Ogunmodede, Regional Lead – Trade and Supply Chain Finance (Asia & Pacific), IFC, and Mr. Md. Zia Arfin, SEVP & Head of International Division of Bank Asia PLC, along with other senior officials.

Conferred under IFC’s Global Trade Finance Program (GTFP), this award recognizes partner banks that demonstrate strong collaboration with IFC, excellence in supporting cross-border trade—particularly in challenging markets—and a commitment to responsible and sustainable financing practices, including the promotion of environmentally responsible (green) trade initiatives.

Bank Asia Agent Banking celebrated International Women’s Day 2026 on 8 March by organizing a series of programs, including a virtual meeting and special awareness initiatives at the district level, highlighting the importance of women’s empowerment.

On the occasion, a virtual meeting was held with the participation of women agents, micro-merchants, and officials of the bank from across the country. Mr. Ziaul Hasan, Deputy Managing Director (Agent Banking & CRM), led the session and emphasized the role of Bank Asia Agent Banking in promoting financial inclusion for women and advancing broader aspects of women’s empowerment. Women agents shared their experiences of starting their businesses, the challenges they faced, and how they are contributing to empowering women in their respective communities.

To raise awareness about savings and secure remittance services, Bank Asia Agent Banking also organized special programs in Feni, Cumilla, Narsingdi, and Munshiganj, where women remittance recipients actively participated. Currently, Bank Asia Agent Banking has 510 women agents across the country who are playing a vital role in expanding financial inclusion and delivering banking services to the doorsteps of grassroots communities. Notably, around 64% of the Bank’s 7.5 million Agent Banking customers are women.

Bank Asia continues to work relentlessly to strengthen the capacity and sustainability of women entrepreneurs through partnerships with various national and international development organizations.

ভার্চুয়াল সভা এবং জেলা পর্যায়ে সচেতনতামূলক কর্মসূচিসহ বিভিন্ন আয়োজনের মাধ্যমে ৮ মার্চ ২০২৬ তারিখে আন্তর্জাতিক নারী দিবস দিবস পালন করেছে ব্যাংক এশিয়া এজেন্ট ব্যাংকিং। এসব কর্মসূচির মাধ্যমে নারীর ক্ষমতায়নের গুরুত্ব তুলে ধরা হয়।

দেশের বিভিন্ন প্রান্তে কর্মরত ব্যাংকের নারী এজেন্ট, মাইক্রো-মার্চেন্ট এবং সংশ্লিষ্ট নারী কর্মকর্তাদের অংশগ্রহণে ভার্চুয়াল সভাটি অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। এতে সভাপতিত্ব করেন ব্যাংক এশিয়ার উপব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক (এজেন্ট ব্যাংকিং এন্ড সিআরএম) জনাব জিয়াউল হাসান। তিনি নারীদের আর্থিক অন্তর্ভুক্তি বৃদ্ধি এবং নারীর সামগ্রিক ক্ষমতায়নে ব্যাংক এশিয়া এজেন্ট ব্যাংকিং-এর ভূমিকার ওপর গুরুত্বারোপ করেন। সভায় নারী এজেন্টগণ তাদের ব্যবসা শুরুর অভিজ্ঞতা, বিভিন্ন চ্যালেঞ্জ মোকাবেলার গল্প এবং নিজ নিজ এলাকায় নারীর ক্ষমতায়নে তাদের অবদানের কথা তুলে ধরেন।

সঞ্চয় ও নিরাপদ রেমিট্যান্স সেবা সম্পর্কে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধির লক্ষ্যে ব্যাংক এশিয়া এজেন্ট ব্যাংকিং ফেনী, কুমিল্লা, নরসিংদী এবং মুন্সিগঞ্জ জেলায় বিশেষ কর্মসূচির আয়োজন করে, যেখানে নারী রেমিট্যান্স গ্রহীতারা সক্রিয়ভাবে অংশগ্রহণ করেন। উল্লেখ্য, বর্তমানে সারা দেশে ব্যাংক এশিয়া এজেন্ট ব্যাংকিং-এর ৫১০ জন নারী এজেন্ট রয়েছে, যারা তৃণমূল পর্যায়ে মানুষের দোরগোড়ায় ব্যাংকিং সেবা পৌঁছে দিতে এবং আর্থিক অন্তর্ভুক্তি সম্প্রসারণে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করছেন। ব্যাংকটির ৭৫ লক্ষ এজেন্ট ব্যাংকিং গ্রাহকের প্রায় ৬৪ শতাংশই নারী।

নারী উদ্যোক্তাদের সক্ষমতা ও টেকসই উন্নয়নে সহায়তা করতে ব্যাংক এশিয়া বিভিন্ন জাতীয় ও আন্তর্জাতিক উন্নয়ন সংস্থার সঙ্গে অংশীদারিত্বের ভিত্তিতে নিরলসভাবে কাজ করে যাচ্ছে।

Bank Asia PLC observed ‘Financial Literacy Day–2026’ on 2 March 2026 by organizing a series of initiatives in line with the directives of Bangladesh Bank.

To mark the occasion, the Bank arranged a nationwide virtual meeting with its officials. Managing Director Mr. Sohail R K Hussain addressed the program as the key speaker. The session was presided over by Deputy Managing Director (Head of Agent Banking & CRM) Mr. Ziaul Hasan.

As part of the day-long observance, the Bank organized special financial literacy programs for remittance customers in the districts of Chattogram, Feni, Cumilla, Narayanganj, Narsingdi, and Tangail under a UNCDF-funded project. The initiative aims to enhance awareness among customers regarding safe and secure remittance practices.

The Bank also disseminated dedicated financial literacy content through its social media platforms and screened audio-visual materials at various locations to promote responsible financial practices.

Over the years, Bank Asia has conducted extensive financial literacy programs across the country, targeting underserved communities and professions that previously remained outside the formal banking network. To date, the Bank has directly provided financial literacy training to 188,500 customers and indirectly reached approximately 1.5 million individuals, fostering greater awareness about banking operations, products and services.

Bank Asia PLC organized a doa mahfil seeking eternal peace and salvation for the departed soul of its Founding Chairman, Late Abdur Rouf Chowdhury. The mahfil was held on February 17, 2026 at Bank Asia Tower, Karwan Bazar, Dhaka. The doa was conducted by Maulana Shah Mohammad Wali Ullah, Former Member Secretary of the Bank’s Shariah Supervisory Committee.

Among others, Former Director Mr. Dilwar H Choudhury, Director Mr. Md. Ataur Rahman, ndc, and Ms. Farzana Khan, Managing Director Mr. Sohail R K Hussain attended the mahfil. Abdur Rouf Chowdhury, Founder of RANGS Group and one of the country’s most respected industrialists, passed away on February 18, 2023, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in Bangladesh’s business and financial sectors.

At the same time, cake-cutting ceremonies were held at agent points nationwide, alongside customer engagement activities through social and print media—highlighting the shared journey with 75 lakh customers.

Bank Asia launched its Agent Banking operations on 17 January 2014 with its first outlet in Bhabanipur, Sirajdikhan Upazila, Munshiganj district. Over the past 12 years, Agent Banking has on-boarded 75 lakh customers, of whom 92% are from rural areas and 64% are women, underscoring Bank Asia’s strong commitment to inclusive growth and sustainable financial empowerment across Bangladesh.

প্রতিষ্ঠার ১২ তম বর্ষপূর্তিতে ৭৫ লাখ গ্রাহককে আনুষ্ঠানিক আর্থিক সেবার আওতায় এনে ব্যাংকিং সেবায় এক অনন্য মাইলফলক অর্জন করেছে ব্যাংক এশিয়া এজেন্ট ব্যাংকিং। এ উপলক্ষে নানা আয়োজনে এজেন্ট ব্যাংকিং সেবার ১২ তম প্রতিষ্ঠাবার্ষিকী উদযাপন করলো ব্যাংক এশিয়া পিএলসি। ১৭ জানুয়ারি ২০২৬ তারিখে রাজধানীর পল্টনস্থ ব্যাংকের কর্পোরেট অফিস- র‌্যাংগস্ টাওয়ারে এ উপলক্ষ্যে আয়োজিত অনুষ্ঠানে ছিল কেক কাটা, নতুন সেবা ও ক্যাম্পেইন উদ্বোধন এবং সেরা এজেন্ট ও কর্মীদের সম্মাননা প্রদান।
ব্যাংকের চেয়ারম্যান জনাব রোমো রউফ চৌধুরী পরিচালনা পর্ষদের সদস্য ও ব্যবস্থাপনা পর্ষদের সদস্যদের নিয়ে কেক কাটেন। এ সময় ‘ক্যাশ বাই কোড’ সেবা এবং ‘রেমিট্যান্স সুরক্ষা’ নামে আর্থিক সাক্ষরতা ক্যাম্পেইনের উদ্বোধন করা হয় এবং সেরা পারফরমার এজেন্ট ও কর্মীদের মধ্যে পুরস্কার বিতরণ করা হয়।

প্রতিষ্ঠাবার্ষিকী উপলক্ষে এজেন্ট মিট, ঐতিহ্যবাহী পিঠা উৎসব, সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠান এবং দেশব্যাপী এজেন্ট পয়েন্টে কেক কাটার আয়োজন করা হয়। পাশাপাশি সামাজিক ও প্রিন্ট মিডিয়ায় গ্রাহক সম্পৃক্ততামূলক কার্যক্রম পরিচালিত হয়।
ব্যাংক এশিয়া ২০১৪ সালের ১৭ জানুয়ারি মুন্সিগঞ্জ জেলার সিরাজদিখান উপজেলার ভবানীপুরে এজেন্ট আউটলেট চালুর  মাধ্যমে দেশে এজেন্ট ব্যাংকিং কার্যক্রম শুরু করে। বর্তমানে এই সেবার আওতায় ৭৫ লাখ গ্রাহক অন্তর্ভুক্ত হয়েছে- এর মধ্যে ৯২ শতাংশ গ্রামীণ জনগোষ্ঠী এবং ৬৪ শতাংশ নারী, যা দেশের আর্থিক অন্তর্ভুক্তিতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখছে।

Bank Asia PLC, in association with Bangladesh Bank, has organized a month-long ‘Entrepreneurship Development Program’ for SME entrepreneurs in Sylhet. The program was inaugurated on 12 January 2026 by the Chief Guest Mr. Khaled Ahmed, Executive Director, Bangladesh Bank (Sylhet Office).

Mr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Additional Director, Bangladesh Bank and Program Director of SICIP and Mr. Mohammad Saifuddowla, Head of Small Business of Bank Asia were the Special Guests. Mr. Md. Nazmus Sakib, Zonal Head (Sylhet & East Zone) of Bank Asia, presided over the program.

The training program has been designed to equip new entrepreneurs with essential business skills, enabling them to contribute to the country’s economic growth by fostering employment generation. The program is funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB) and managed by the Skills for Industry Competitiveness and Innovation Program (SICIP) of Finance Department, Ministry of Finance.

সিলেটে এসএমই উদ্যোক্তাদের জন্য ব্যাংক এশিয়া ও বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের মাসব্যাপী প্রশিক্ষণ কর্মসূচি 

বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের সহায়তায় ক্ষুদ্র ও মাঝারি শিল্প খাতের (এসএমই) উদ্যোক্তাদের জন্য সিলেটে মাসব্যাপী প্রশিক্ষণ কর্মসূচীর আয়োজন করেছে ব্যাংক এশিয়া পিএলসি। ১২ জানুয়ারি ২০২৬ তারিখে বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের নির্বাহী পরিচালক (সিলেট অফিস) জনাব খালেদ আহমদ প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে প্রশিক্ষণ কর্মসূচীর উদ্বোধন করেন। 
বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের অতিরিক্ত পরিচালক এবং এসআইসিআইপি- প্রকল্পের প্রোগ্রাম ডিরেক্টর জনাব মোঃ নজরুল ইসলাম এবং ব্যাংক এশিয়ার হেড অব স্মল বিজনেস জনাব মোহাম্মদ সাইফুদ্দৌলা অনুষ্ঠানে বিশেষ অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন। ব্যাংক এশিয়ার সিলেট ও ইস্ট জোনাল হেড জনাব মোঃ নাজমুস সাকিব অনুষ্ঠানে সভাপতিত্ব করেন। 
নতুন উদ্যোক্তাদের ব্যবসায়িক জ্ঞান ও ব্যবস্থাপনা দক্ষতা বৃদ্ধির লক্ষে এ প্রশিক্ষণ কর্মসূচির আয়োজন করা হয় যাতে তারা কর্মসংস্থান সৃষ্টির মাধ্যমে দেশের অর্থনৈতিক উন্নয়নে ভূমিকা রাখতে পারে। এশীয় উন্নয়ন ব্যাংকের অর্থায়নে এবং অর্থ মন্ত্রণালয়ের অর্থ বিভাগ-এর স্কিল ফর ইন্ডাস্ট্রি কম্পিটিটিভনেস এন্ড ইনোভেশন প্রোগ্রাম (এসআইসিআইপি) এর ব্যবস্থাপনায় প্রশিক্ষণ কর্মসূচী পরিচালিত হয়। 

Mr. Md. Sabbir Hossain, a seasoned banker with extensive banking experience, has joined Bank Asia PLC. as Additional Managing Director (AMD) and Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective 01 January 2026.

Mr. Hossain brings with him more than three decades of successful banking experience, particularly in the areas of technology, operations, digital transformation, and process re-engineering. He started his glorious career at ANZ Grindlays Bank in 1994. Then he joined at Standard Chartered Bank (SCB). During his journey with ANZ & SCB, he held several key leadership positions, including Head of Banking Operations, Branch Operations, Personal Banking, Proximity Banking, Country Technology, Operational Risk & Service Quality, and later served as Head of Corporate, Institutional and Commercial Banking Operations.

Subsequently, Mr. Hossain worked as Country Head, Operations & Technology at Citibank N.A., and later as Chief Operations Officer at MetLife Bangladesh. Prior to joining Bank Asia, he served as Deputy Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of BRAC Bank PLC, where he joined in September 2019. At BRAC Bank, he demonstrated strong leadership in Information Technology, Operations, Sustainable Finance, Digital Transformation, and Process Re-engineering initiatives.

Mr. Md. Sabbir Hossain is a graduate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and holds an MBA from North South University. He attended executive education of MIT, USA on “Social Program Evaluation” and holds Executive Certificates from Harvard Kennedy School on “Economic Development” and “Public Policy”. He takes keen interest in inclusive development and environmental good.

অভিজ্ঞ ও খ্যাতিমান ব্যাংকার জনাব মোঃ সাব্বির হোসেন ১ জানুয়ারি ২০২৬ তারিখে ব্যাংক এশিয়া পিএলসিতে অতিরিক্ত ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক (এএমডি) ও চিফ অপারেটিং অফিসার (সিওও) হিসেবে যোগদান করেছেন।
জনাব হোসেন প্রযুক্তি, অপারেশনস্, ডিজিটাল ট্রান্সফরমেশন এবং প্রসেস রি-ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং খাতে তিন দশকেরও বেশি সময়ের পেশাগত অভিজ্ঞতাসম্পন্ন। ১৯৯৪ সালে এএনজেড গ্রীনলেজ ব্যাংকে যোগদানের মাধ্যমে তিনি ব্যাংকিং ক্যারিয়ার শুরু করেন। এরপর তিনি স্ট্যান্ডার্ড চার্টার্ড ব্যাংকে (এসসিবি) যোগ দেন।  এএনজেড এবং এসসিবিতে কর্মজীবনের বিভিন্ন পর্যায়ে তিনি হেড অব ব্যাংকিং অপারেশনস, ব্রাঞ্চ অপারেশনস, পারসোনাল ব্যাংকিং, প্রক্সিমিটি ব্যাংকিং, কান্ট্রি টেকনোলজি, অপারেশনাল রিস্ক অ্যান্ড সার্ভিস কোয়ালিটি এবং সর্বশেষ হেড অব কর্পোরেট, ইনস্টিটিউশনাল অ্যান্ড কমার্শিয়াল ব্যাংকিং অপারেশনস হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন।
পরবর্তীতে তিনি সিটি ব্যাংক এন.এ.-তে কান্ট্রি হেড, অপারেশনস অ্যান্ড টেকনোলজি হিসেবে এবং মেটলাইফ বাংলাদেশে চিফ অপারেটিং অফিসার হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন। এরপর ২০১৯ সালের সেপ্টেম্বর মাসে তিনি ব্র্যাক ব্যাংক পিএলসিতে উপ-ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক ও চিফ অপারেটিং অফিসার হিসেবে যোগদান করেন। সেখানে তিনি তথ্যপ্রযুক্তি, অপারেশনস, টেকসই অর্থায়ন, ডিজিটাল ট্রান্সফরমেশন এবং প্রসেস রি-ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং খাতে দক্ষতার সাথে নেতৃত্ব দেন।
জনাব মোঃ সাব্বির হোসেন বাংলাদেশ প্রকৌশল বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় (বুয়েট) থেকে ইলেকট্রিক্যাল অ্যান্ড ইলেকট্রনিক ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিংয়ে স্নাতক এবং নর্থ সাউথ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে এমবিএ ডিগ্রি অর্জন করেন। এছাড়াও তিনি যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের ম্যাসাচুসেটস ইনস্টিটিউট অব টেকনোলজি (এমআইটি) থেকে “সোশ্যাল প্রোগ্রাম ইভ্যালুয়েশন” বিষয়ে এক্সিকিউটিভ এডুকেশন সম্পন্ন করেছেন এবং হার্ভার্ড কেনেডি স্কুল থেকে “ইকোনমিক ডেভেলপমেন্ট” ও “পাবলিক পলিসি” বিষয়ে এক্সিকিউটিভ সার্টিফিকেট অর্জন করেছেন। অন্তর্ভুক্তিমূলক উন্নয়ন ও পরিবেশগত কল্যাণ বিষয়ের প্রতি তার বিশেষ আগ্রহ রয়েছে।
