Bank Asia provides Higher Studies Scholarship in Munshigonj

As a part of corporate social responsibility, Bank Asia has provided higher studies scholarship to 40 meritorious students of Malkhanagor, Sirajdikhan, Baligaon and Nimtola in Munshigonj and Rohitpur of Keranigonj and Agla Bazar of Nababgonj Upazila in Dhaka district on Friday (09 December, 2016). Mr. A. Rouf Chowdhury, Chairman of the Bank handed over the scholarship money to the students at a function held at Malkhanagor Degree College auditorium. Chairman of the Board Executive Committee of the Bank Mr. Rumee A Hossain, Vice Chairman of Rangs Group Mr. Amanullah Chowdhury, President & Managing Director of Bank Asia Mr. Md. Arfan Ali, Additional Managing Director Mr. Aminul Islam, Sirajdikhan Upazila Chairman Mr. Mohiuddin Ahmed were, among others, present. A large number of people including students, teachers, journalists, businessmen and local elite attended the function.



It may be mentioned that Bank Asia gives scholarships for higher study to the meritorious students in the rural areas, where the Bank has branches. A total of 240 (two hundred forty) students have been selected for Bank Asia Higher Studies Scholarship for the current year.

Bank Asia Limited has been awarded Second Prize in 16th ICAB National Award BPAR

Bank Asia celebrates 17th Anniversary

Bank Asia celebrated its 17th Anniversary at Basundhara International Convention Hall in the capital city Dhaka on Sunday (27 November, 2016) with a commitment to serve the people and contribute to national development.



Honorable Chief Guest of the program & Industry Minister Mr. Tofail Ahmed and Special Guest & Chairman of Bank Asia Mr. A Rouf Chowdhury cut the cake of 17th Anniversary Celebration with attending clients, dignitaries, well-wishers and bank employees, and gave the program a festive look. Industry Minister Mr. Tofail Ahmed, Chairman of Bank Asia Mr. A Rouf Chowdhury and President & Managing Director of the Bank Mr. Md. Arfan Ali spoke the function.



Mr. Tofail Ahmed reminisced the moment of approval of Bank Asia in 1999 while addressing the function and said he was happy to see the progress of this bank and contribution to the economy.



Mr. A Rouf Chowdhury, Chairman of the Bank told the huge gathering that Bank Asia is committed to reach banking service to doorstep of grassroots people by next two or three years. With the change of individuals economic condition, Mr, Chowdhury hoped, the economy of the country will witness a significant change.



A corporate documentary on the bank was screened at the program, highlighting the bank’s activities and performance including its role in bringing unbanked population under banking network through Agent Banking program, works of CSR, progress in digital financial services and contribution for nation development.



Later, five CDs containing Rabindrasangeet, sang by the former Chairman of Bank Asia Mr Anisur Rahman Sinha was undraped. Mr. Sinha also performed a number of songs at the function that amazed the guests.

Bank Asia and CARE joined hand to facilitate online payment to RMG workers

Bank Asia has joined hand with CARE Bangladesh, an international voluntary organization to facilitate online payment opportunities for Ready Made Garment (RMG) workers and fulfilling their all kinds of banking needs.



A MoU with this effect has been signed between the two organizations at a function held at the Corporate Office of Bank Asia at Purana Paltan in the capital city Dhaka today (Thursday, 24 Nov. 2016). Mr. Md. Arfan Ali, President & Managing Director of Bank Asia and Mr.  Arshad Muhammad, Acting Country Director of CARE Bangladesh inked the agreement on behalf of respective sides.



Deputy Managing Directors of Bank Asia Mr. Mohammad Zahirul Alam and Mr. Mian Quamrul Hasan Chowdhury, Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Channel Banking Mr. Adil Raihan and Mr. MM Saif Islam, Program Coordinator, Private Sector Engagement of CARE Bangladesh were, among others, present on the occasion.



Under the agreement RMG workers in two factories in Gazipur will enjoy smooth online payment of their wage and other benefits through the agent banking outlets to be set up inside their factories in pilot phase. With successful implementation of the venture the initiative will be replicated in others factories gradually and thus address the hurdles/problems of wage and over time related payment of RMG workers.



Speaking the function Mr. Arfan Ali, President & Managing Director of the Bank termed the bank’s motto as fulfilling needs of people through banking channel. He asserted views to change the life of every people in every corner of the country amid bringing them in agent banking channel. Mr Arfan Ali mentioned the negotiation with CARE for bringing its (CARE) around 5 million beneficiaries of various projects in the banking channel and hoped that Bank Asia will be able to meet their all needs and contribute to change their economy.



Echoing to Bank Asia President & Managing Director, Mr Arshad Muhammad, Acting Country Director of CARE Bangladesh hoped ‘This small initiative will reach the benefits to millions tomorrow. He said CARE Bangladesh wishes to work combinely with Bank Asia to make a positive change to the life of poor and the marginalized.

A. Rouf Chowdhury awarded 'Business and Entrepreneur Excellence Award 2016' in UK

Bank Asia accords reception to the countrys top IT exporters

To open up avenue of financial support and inspire to be entrepreneur, Bank Asia today accorded reception to the country’s 62 top young IT service exporters who were earlier endowed with BASIS Outsourcing Award-2015.



Md. Arfan Ali, President & Managing Director of Bank Asia handed over appreciation certificate and gift to the award winners from different districts at a function held at the Corporate Office of the Bank at Purana Paltan, Dhaka. Mr. Patrick De Courcy, Head of Marketing of Payoneer (a gateway payment service provider) of Asia Pacific, Mr. Russell T Ahmed, Senior Vice President of BASIS, Mr. Syed Mohammad Kamal, Country Manager of MasterCard, Mr. Junaid Masroor, Senior Executive Vice President, International Banking, and Mr. Md. Zia Arfin, EVP, Head of International Division of Bank Asia, were, among others, present.



The program was focused on problems and prospects of outsourcing in Bangladesh.



Speaking the function Mr. Arfan Ali, President & Managing Director of Bank Asia asserted his optimism that the country’s IT section will become the second highest export earner sector next to the Ready-Made Garments in near future. He reiterated financial inclusion activities and plans of Bank Asia to reach financial service to every union within a few years through Agent Banking services from where freelancers will be able to get banking service and resolve their financial problems. In collaboration with BASIS, Payoneer and MasterCard, Mr. Arfan Ali, hoped that Bank Asia will ensure financial services to IT professionals and thus promote outsourcing and entrepreneurship in the country.



Mr. Patrick De Courcy, Head of Marketing- Payoneer (a payment gateway service) of Asia Pacific called upon the young freelancers to improve and set themselves in global scale. He assured that Payoneer will open up its more options of gateway payment service to help freelancers get their payment easily.



Mr. Russel T. Ahmed Senior Vice President of BASIS in his speech termed outsourcing as a start of the process for a bigger initiative and urged freelancers to form group and then turn to be entrepreneur.
