Bank Asia signs MoU with a2i Programme and BREB

Access to Information (a2i) Programme of Prime Minister’s Office, Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) and Bank Asia Limited has shacked hands to launch electronic bill payment service of BREB through Digital Centers of the country. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect has been signed among the organizations at a function held at the Prime Minister’s Office in the capital city Dhaka on 08 March, 2017.



Mr. Kabir Bin Anwar, Director General (Administration), Prime Minister’s Office and Project Director of a2i Programme, Ms. Khaleda Parvin, Secretary of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) and Mr. Md. Arfan Ali, President & Managing Director of Bank Asia signed the agreement on behalf of respective organizations.



Under this MoU, the bill payment of BREB and other e-services will be provided electronically through ‘agent banking’ of Digital Centers located at Union, Upazila, Municipality and City Corporation across the country. As an impact of the agent banking initiative, BREB bill payment system will be faster and time saver. Moreover, it will also help achieve the current government's goal of ‘Vision- 2021’.



Naimuzzaman Mukta, Local Development Specialist of a2i, Md. Imdadul Islam, Board Member of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board, senior officials of a2i Programme, Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board, Bank Asia Limited, NRB Commercial Bank Limited and Media representatives were present on the occasion.

3rd Revision/Phase of online banking service

Caption: Mr. Md.  Arfan Ali, President & Managing Director of Bank Asia is launching the 3rd Revision/Phase of online banking service to the Government’s poverty alleviation project “Ektee Baree Ektee Khamar (EBEK)” by cutting cake at a simple ceremony held at the Corporate Office of the Bank at Rangs Tower, Purana Paltan, Dhaka today (6 March, 2017). Deputy Managing Directors Ms. Humaira Azam, Mr. Mohammed Zahirul Alam, Mr. Mian Quamrul Hasan Chowdhury and other high officials of the Bank are also seen at the program. Bank Asia have been tagged with the government’s poverty alleviation program since May 2012 and at present Bank Asia is providing online banking services to 1.167 million EBEK beneficiaries in 252 Upazilla of 35 Districts. Besides, it is extending door-step banking services to the ultra-poor people of the country.

Bank Asia signs a tri-partite credit agreement for Agricultural Value Chain

Serajul Islam, CEO of ERA Info Tech Ltd and Mr. Ahsan Ul Alam, Vice President and Head of Agent Banking Division of Bank Asia are, among others, seen in the picture.



Bank Asia signed a tri-partite agreement with Agro-Input Retailers Network (AIRN) and NAAFCO, an agricultural input marketing company to offer credit facilities to their agri beneficiaries in southern regions of Bangladesh. The facilities include business to business (B2B) transfer and payment services to the prospective input retailers of AIRN, managed by USAID’s Agro-Inputs Project, and distributors of NAAFCO.

Arfan Ali, President & Managing Director of Bank Asia.



Mr. Alexis Ellicott, Chief of Party, USAID’s Agro-Inputs Project (AIP) implemented by CNFA, Mr. Josh Woodard, Regional ICT & Digital Finance Advisor of FHI 360 of USAID, Mr. Md. Serajul Islam, CEO of ERA Info Tech Ltd and Mr. Ahsan Ul Alam, Vice President and Head of Agent Banking Division of Bank Asia were, among others, present.



It is mentionable that Bank Asia’s credit facilities for AIRN and NAAFCO is considered as a strong move towards financial inclusion for agricultural value chain actors and an impetus to their business promotion and expansion. The `mSTAR’ program of `FHI 360 Project helps modalities of the credit facilities.
