Bank Asia signs agreement with SME Foundation

Bank Asia and SME Foundation have signed separate agreement on Thursday (16th February, 2017) to facilitate financing to women entrepreneurs involved in manufacturing and service sector business in rural areas, and cluster of electrical product in the suburb of Dhaka city.



Mr. Md. Arfan Ali, President & Managing Director of Bank Asia and Mr. MD. Shafiqul Islam, Managing Director of SME Foundation inked the agreement on behalf respective sides at a function held at SME Foundation office at Kawran Bazar in the capital city, Dhaka.



Senior Executive Vice President and Head of SME and Agri Division of Bank Asia Mr. Sarder Akhter Hamed, General Manager of SME Foundation Mr. S. M. Shaheen  Anwar and Deputy General Manager of SME Foundation Mr. Md. Nazeem H. Sattar and high officials of both the organizations were present.



Under the agreement Bank Asia will finance Women Entrepreneurs around the country except Dhaka & Chittagong city corporation areas, and cluster of Electrical products at Shampur, Jurain, Kadamtoli and the adjacent areas in Dhaka. Each eligible micro & small entrepreneur will enjoy credit facility of Tk. 50,000.00 to Tk. 10,00,000.00 at the interest rate of 9 per cent from Bank Asia under the SME Foundation’s Credit Wholesaling Program.

Bank Asia opens new branch in Bhola

The 114th Branch of Bank Asia started operation at Sadar Road in Bhola town from today (Sunday, 19 February, 2017). Commerce Minister and Chief Guest Mr. Tofail Ahmed, MP inaugurated the new branch at a program held at Nobarun Center in presence of Bank Asia Chairman Mr. A Rouf Chowdhury. Vice Chairmen of the Bank Mr. Mohd. Safwan Choudhury and Mr. AM Nurul Islam, Chairman of Board Executive Committee Mr. Rumee A Hossain, Chairman of Board Audit Committee Mr. Mashiur Rahman, President & Managing Director Mr. Md. Arfan Ali and lawmaker from Bhola-2 constituency Mr. Ali Azam Mukul, MP were, among others, present. Members of the business community, local elite and a large number of people also attended the auspicious event. The new branch has all the modern banking facilities including on-line banking and ATM.

Bank Asia provides Higher Studies Scholarship in Chittagong

As a part of corporate social responsibility, Bank Asia has provided higher studies scholarship to 43 meritorious students of Lohagara, Bhatiary, Patherhat, Lichubagan and Dohajari in Chittagong district on Saturday (February 11, 2017). Mr. Md. Arfan Ali, President & Managing Director of Bank Asia handed over the scholarship to the students at a function held at Zonal Office of the Bank at Agrabad in the Port City of Chittagong. Deputy Managing Directors Ms. Humaira Azam, and Mr. Mohammad Zahirul Alam, Senior Executive Vice President Mr Shafiuzzaman, Zonal Head Mr, Md Saiful Islam and senior officials of the Bank were present.



A large number of people including students, teachers, journalists, businessmen and local elite attended the function.



It may be mentioned that Bank Asia gives scholarships for higher study to the meritorious students in the rural areas, where the Bank has branches. A total of 240 (two hundred forty) students have been selected for Bank Asia Higher Studies Scholarship for the current year.

span style="font-family:times new roman,serif; font-size:16.0pt">Under the agreement the loan from the GTF will be offered in US Dollars (USD) and provided to Authorized Dealers (ADs) for refinancing to eligible borrowers. GTF is intended to facilitate access to financing in foreign exchange by all manufacturer exporters in export oriented textile & textile products and leather manufacturing industries to import capital machinery and accessories for implementing various green/environment friendly initiatives.



span style="font-family:times new roman,serif; font-size:16.0pt">AD Banks may participate in the fund provided that they fulfill the eligibility criteria for borrowing and maintain the required standard level of operation for continuation during the tenor. Sustainable Finance Department (SFD) of Bangladesh Bank will issue a detailed Guidelines Note for the use and management of this fund & till the issuance of the Guidelines Note, the decision regarding the transformation will be made by SFD.

Bank Asia and Pran-RFL Group has joined hands to reach banking services to people by setting up agent banking outlet inside Pran-RFL’s Daily Shopping and Best Buy outlets through the country and facilitate financial services to Pran-RFL’s workers. Three separate agreements to this effect have been signed between the two organizations at a simple ceremony held at Rangs Bhaban at Tejgaon Old Airport Road in the capital city Dhaka today (Tuesday, January 31, 2017).



In presence Mr. A Rouf Chowdhury, Chairman of Bank Asia and Mr. Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, Chairman & Chief Executive of Pran-RFL Group the agreements were inked respectively by Ms. Uzma Chowdhury, CPA, Director of Pran-RFL Group, Mr. Mohammed Borhanuddin, Senior Executive Vice President of Bank Asia, Mr. Abdul Latif, Senior Vice President & Head of Scotia Branch and Mr. Ahsan Ul Alam, Vice President & Head of Agent Banking Division of the Bank. Bank Asia opens Agent Banking outlet for farmers in Dinajpur

Bank Asia opened its agent banking outlet at a farmers’ center in Mithapukur upazila of Dinajpur district on 26 January, 2017 in a move to financial inclusion of marginal farmers and facilitate their access to quality input and get better price of agri outputs.



Mr. Simon Brown, Country Director of VSO Bangladesh inaugurated the agent outlet at a farmers’ center at Kafrikhal in presence of Mr. Mohammed Zahirul Alam, Deputy Managing Director of Bank Asia. Mr. Philip Goodwin, Chief Executive of VSO International, Ms. Jane Edmonson, Head of DFID Bangladesh, Ms. Monjusree Saha, Director of Development Program, RDRS Bangladesh, Md. Sazzadul Hasan, Managing Director of Syngenta Bangladesh and Mr. Ahsan Ul Alam, Vice President & Head of Agent Banking Division of Bank Asia were, among others, present.



VSO International has been supporting the start-up costs of youth agents for establishing their agent outlet at farmers’ center. The farmers’ center is the physical space where farmers can enjoy access to quality inputs, simple mechanization and aggregate crops for better pricing. In pilot phase, VSO will create employment for six bank agents and first of this has been established at Kafrikhal of Mithapukur Upazila.



At the program Mr. Mohammed Zahirul Alam, Deputy Managing Director of Bank Asia handed over 2 agricultural loan of 50,000 each to two farmers which was processed by a day. He promised to extend financial services to marginalized people for improvement their economic condition.
